ROMP packaging and synthesis
The goal of packaging and synthesizing your genres together in this project is to create a sense of purposeful coherence—a creative way for the project to come together so your audience can understand it.

Below are some ideas for ways other multigenre research writers have packaged their projects. Next to each, write down some ideas, pros, and cons about this strategy in relation to your own project.

Packaging - 5 common approaches
(Note: these are suggestions, not requirements, so feel free to use others)

Approach
My ideas
Pros
Cons
  1. The Scrapbook
EXAMPLE: A collection of photos, letters, and memorabilia collected by a person who attended a famous event
Cover page would be a laptop and each page of the book would look like a word document since my topic is about blogging, so it should relate to technology.
-simple, easy to organize
-doesn’t fit with my topic
  1. The Dossier or Package of Secret Documents
EXAMPLE: A box of top-secret evidence or professional documents
-none
-none
-doesn’t fit with my topic
-difficult
-my topic has no secret type of evidence
  1. The Magazine
EXAMPLE: A themed issue relating advertisements, articles, interviews, etc. to a single person, event, or problem
-could be appropriate for my topic
-good for showing lots of pictures
-my advice column would work for this genre
-hard to illustrate exactly what my topic ‘s purpose is
-hard to make it look interesting, without being repetitive
  1. The Memory Chest
EXAMPLE: Artifacts left behind in the attic or recovered after the war which give clues to the person or event responsible for their creation
-there are no old artifacts that could be recovered about my project
-no ideas
-none
-not appropriate for my topic
  1. The Subject-Related Container
EXAMPLE: A metaphor or symbol for the topic becomes the container (like film canisters for a project about a movie star)
-I could use a box to make a model of a laptop and inside I could have blog posts glued around it
-potential to be really cool
-creative
-have to find a box that was big enough to be like a laptop, but not too big
-hard to package and make all the genres relate to each other.

Synthesis – 5 common approaches
(Note: these are suggestions, not requirements, so feel free to use others)

Approach
My ideas
Pros
Cons
  1. Introduction
EXAMPLES:
  • A letter to the reader
  • A recipe that is also a table of contents
A letter could be good, I could address it as “Dear bloggers”
-appropriate for the audience
-not really sure how I would word it, not sure if it would make sense for the purpose
  1. Pieces of text that connect
EXAMPLES:
  • Quotes that correspond to each genre
  • Headlines
-I can title each link, all the titles will be appropriate and relatable to all the genres
-good for expressing emotions
-interesting
-not good for genres that are more informational
  1. A piece that continues throughout the project
EXAMPLES:
  • Timeline
  • Lines from poem/song
-not really sure how I could do this, hard for my topic
-interesting
-cool
-doesn’t work for my topic or ideas for packaging
  1. A repeated picture
or graphic
EXAMPLES:
  • Logo
  • Cartoon commentator
-my topic can’t really have a repeated picture, doesn’t make sense
-fun for people to look at
-not appropriate for topic
  1. Linking ideas
EXAMPLES:
  • An idea in one piece appears in the next
  • “Voices” that respond to each other
All of my genres relate to one another so all of my ideas are pretty much linked
-all information is regarded through out whole project
-easy for people to understand
-none
